There's a pony on the lawn in the moonlight, the moon so bright, it lights up the whole sky, it lights up the melting snow, empty footprints, empty promises. The dancer, she dances, twirls around with grace, arms in the air, dancing. She dances all alone. And the military man sits and watches her, amazed by her. A one man audience applauds for her. And the moon, the dancer, and the military man, are sharing a drink. The glasses are empty, their lips are dry. And the moon only rises when the sun sets, disappears behind the mountains. Using the sun's light to glow, he needs the sun. And the dancer only dances alone. Her partners just can't keep up. She can't change her ways, she won't change her ways, And's that's why the military man adores her so much. She can shake her body all day, he just wants her to lay flat. And the moon, the dancer, and the military man are shining so bright in the sky, streaking by, on the dance floor. The moon is old, old, old, seen everything, everywhere. But he fears the day Jesus will come. Will he turn to blood? Will that be the end? And the dancer is so young, though she feels differently. She stretches withh such ease, everyone knows her. And the military man knows why she is so lonely at the top. He's there too, ya know? But she is unreachable. And the moon, the dancer, and the military man are shining but not smiling. Because the moon is afraid of falling out of the sky, and the dancer is so, so, lonely, and the man is afraid of dying before the war starts. The moon is watching them, watching them both, seperated oceans apart, a rare connection, he's never seen before. The dancer is dancing, to some American music. She paints her eyelids, and kisses those she hates. The military man speaks a foreign tongue. He eats rotten cheese and gets constipated. He's ahead of his squadron in more than one way, as his bomber streaks through the sky. And the moon, the dancer, and the military man know each other very well. Now the moon shines and smiles, he has never seen this before. Peace military man, Peace.
