Stolen Innocence

by J Alan - Not entered

He came to her when she was five,
The tiny girl with the big brown eyes,
The husband of the favorite aunt,
The doting uncle in disguise.

They had their tea
With Dolly there
And Floppy Bunny
And Teddy Bear

He’d bring her treats
And wipe her tears
She’d hold his hand
He’d calm her fears

He laughed with her,
Played hide and seek.
But there were secrets
She could never speak

It continued through her early teens
The secret things her uncle did
Her cries for help all went unheard,
The family shame, God forbid.

Stay away from him
When he comes to near.
We can’t upset your aunt
My dear.

A woman faced an older man
Her courage drawn from years of pain
With shaky voice and trembling hand
She knew a life was hers to gain.

Her words were strong
Her voice was tense
You stole my youth,
My innocence.

The words came rushing
From deep inside.
No more to fear,
No more to hide.

He came to her when she was five,
The tiny girl with the big brown eyes,
The husband of the favorite aunt,
The doting uncle in disguise.
