Being a Mexicana

by La Cachanilla - Not entered

Walking among the unknown faces at school
Stared at, intimidated, feel like a fool
I'm not paranoid, I feel lonely
Why is it us Mexicanos only?

What is it about us that makes us differ?

Is it our dedicated & persistent pride?
The strength & power we have inside?
Could it be the color of our skin?
Our shades of brown are of no sin
Why are we looked at upon in fear?
We won't hurt you if you manage to stay clear
Yeah, our culture & customs are unique
So are all other, why so much critique?
If we are stereotyped as being lazy,
why do our people work in the fields all day?
Isn't that Crazy?
Why do you say that all we want is welfare, in spite,
Most people are statistically white
If greasy is the food we please,
Who most suffer from cardiovascular disease?
We might drink to our hearts content
It is nothing that we never repent
Why are we generalized as being unclean?
You must be naively blind, you know what I mean!!
To us, family unity & bond is a must
In them we will always confide & trust
Why don't you ever see us Mexicanos on TV?
News, crime, & on talkshows is all you will usually see
Why is the number of Mexicanos in school slowly decreasing?
Affirmative action is what is now missing
Why call us uneducated prop 187,209 protestors?
Equality amongst us is what we strive for
Jealous, aggressive, our men might be
That is our culture, our morals, I must agree
Call us illegals, wetback if you choose
Remember, your ancestors where there too!
Let us remember the history way back
Is it about power, color, what do we lack?
Respect our race for what we are
Being Mexicana is exceptional by far
