for Angela

by Ronald Rand (Gemini) - Not entered

And you never saw it coming
Why ever did you care?
Why’d you waste love
on lifeless flesh?
Couldn’t you see
that no-one was there?
You watched me sadly
as I tumbled down,
waited patiently
as I fell to the ground
then left before
you saw what you’d done
the breath you pumped
through my empty lungs
the blood you pumped
through my shriveled veins
that washed away
scabs and endless stains
I long forever for you to see
the me that you resurrected
the love that you protected
the life that you sustained
but I’m left standing alone now
wishing you still here
to walk me in from the rain.
