On Watching the Sea

On Watching the Sea

As I silently watch the ocean,
My soul lifts high above the foam.
Each time a wave pounds against the shoreline,
My heart pounds against my chest.
Smooth, salty air replenishes my spirit.
A voice deep inside of me cries out in wonder;
So immense and voluminous and vast
Is the deep, blue Atlantic Ocean.
Violent and sober at the exact same moment;
Like the way my emotions roll in waves.

Sand and sun heal my longing for simplicity;
A time for memories and legends long forgotten;
Of sweet experiences gone out with the tide.
I am fishing in my soul for some comfort
To touch me as the the heavens do the sea.
The frigid, grey water washes away my anguish;
Only to were away precious time.
The moments soar by like seagulls in flight.
My daydream is fading with the sunset.
My entire life I have lived in an hour by the sea.

Reason for writing:

    I love the ocean because it has such a powerful calming effect. I thought that I would submit this poem so that others may enjoy a little piece of tranquility.
