America fought for freedom when freedom at home was not yet declared. The Cong came in the night and caused great fear. They thought it would be over before the start. Our boys underestimated the strength in the enemies heart. Is life now better, who's to say? Dau Tranh continues even today. We were the enemy as well as them; American soldiers against the Viet men.
Reason for writing:
I wrote this poem in 1994 or 1995 after taking a History class at OSU which focused on the war in Vietnam. The novel When Heaven and Earth Change Places by Le Ly Heslop (spelling?)moved me so much that I wrote this poem during class one day.Birth sign: Cancer
