Cold Comfort

Cold Comfort

Pacing across the thickened ice,
I study carefully with my device.
Placing each step with delicate care,
I ponder the life that strives out there.

Where I'm going I am not sure,
but I wear my coat and feel secure.
I carry my load upon my back,
But now I feel the ice will crack.

This load I carry has made me sore.
I can hardly bare the pain anymore.
The ground beneath me soon gives way.
Come grasp my heart so I can stay.

Looking upward above my head,
there came the time that I had dread.
The tears I shed will quickly blend,
within the substance that I am in.

Silence I hear. I see no light.
I reach in vain, and stop my fight.
Here I am lost alone.
No warmth no care to take me home.

Yet I keep reaching up, up there,
but no one reaches back or cares.
I left them far behind you see.
They've tried not to follow me.

Oh, but so a sound I hear.
Someone's footsteps drawing near.
Her voice I hear. All so quaint.
Catch my hand before I faint.

Her hand quickly pierces the water's edge.
Its touch shall answer my final pledge.
The follower pulls me through the hole.
Her warmth engulfs, consumes my soul.

Thank you, dear, I cry no more,
but have I felt your touch before?
Patiently her voice awakens.
Shortly, quietly, no time is taken.

I saw a figure that I had known.
Within my heart is where you've grown.
I shall console and take yee home,
for you may die but not alone.

Dedicated to Cassondra Kirby TML + CASSONDRA

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem in contribution to the one I love so dearly, Cassondra. When I was in the shadows of my own darkness she was there to pull me out. I had not known her long when she had put her heart on the line for ME!
I thank her dearly!!!!
