I was lost, I went astray, The desert sand, Blew hard into my face. The cross I carried fell, I fought to struggle on, And even more I wished My burden to be gone. Miles and miles around, Nothing but the sand, But suddenly before, Water in the ground. I try to take my fill But choke and spit it out, 'Cus nothing but the sand Had filled my thirsty mouth. And so the journey went, And many times again I filled my mouth with sand Like many other men, Who've searched to find green land, And water at their feet, And food to fill their stomach, And shelter from the heat. Though night are still too dark, Lights around me start to flicker, And now I sleep much easier, And the mornings come much quicker. The wind blows much more gently, The sand it disappears, I start to see an end, To my journey of many years.
