Candlelight

by Jennifer M. Stidham - Not entered

Your love was but a candle
Shining brightly on my heart
But I squelched the flames 'til there were ashes
And the true feelings I let part

But now my heart is burdened
For the flame will not ignite
My heart grew dark and cold
For with you, you took the light

So if you care enough inside
You'll endure a second chance and see
That our love will spark the flame
Then I'll forever let it burn inside of me

Reason for writing:

What inspired me to write this poem is my ex-boyfriend. I brok up with him, but you never realize when you have a great thing until it's gone. I've moved on, and started dating other people, but I always find myself comparing them to my ex. So, this poem is for him, to let him know that I love him, and I'm sorry for what I did. A little advice...never let something go, until you know for sure that it's in your or somebody else's best interest.
