We All Do

by Gweedy - Not entered

I never saw the pain
of the past
in your eyes
so clear blue green
green blue
the depth of your smile,
the gleam of your hair,
the tender arousing touch of your hand
and body on mine,
yet here at 2am
you roll and toss
then lie quiet beneath me
and from our combined pleasure
you confess fears
carried from previous lovers.

I am touched by your
torments and insecurities
both proud at your courage and strength
then angered by
fools who didn’t appreciate
the joy they momentarily held,
the pleasure they wasted then discarded,
the despair they forced upon you.

Your smile,
your laugh and self discipline,
I cannot see beyond
the pleasure I receive from your company,
your touch,
and in the dark I shake my head
and wrap myself around you
and hold you while you sleep
hoping to wipe away your groundless fears
knowing we all do what we can,
my own insecurities melt with yours,
I can still feel your lips on my neck.

Reason for writing:

My girlfriend, Cushla, inspired me to write this. She inspires me to write most of my poetry.
