Nature's Visitor

by Julie R. Chatman - Not entered

Uninvited, unwelcomed and unwanted
Stubborn and forceful
He pushes his way
destroying anything or anyone in his path
He is a disgrace to this world
Determined and daring
Egotistic and selfish
He doesn’t hesitate
To show off his strengths and grandeur
As we prepare for his arrival
We question his behavior
And ask Why? Simply, Why?
We pray for protection
From this monstrous visitor
We wait patiently, frustrated and scared
He proudly announces his arrival
Blowing his breaths every which way
Our sun and stars no longer shine
Nature’s beauties facing misery
He keeps an eye on our land
But not to protect us, in any way
He stakes out his territory
Carefully planning his next move
He spreads his wings out as far as he can
Making certain everyone knows he’s here
He angers our oceans, rivers and lakes
Sending them crashing onto our shores
His angry tears fall upon us
Filled with threats of devastation
With all his hatred and fury behind him
He moves on to his next prey
But, as his death approaches
Our visitor now looks like a small child
Apologizing for his behavior, asking for forgiveness
As he leaves, taking with him his angers
He warns us that his relatives may visit
Sometime in the near future
You must be ready he says
For my family may not be as gentle as I
You believe I was harsh
I was only doing my natural duty
Goodbye world, I hope you will remember me
And remember him, we shall…

In memory of all the innocent people who lost their lives.
