Your Ghost

by Megan Aries - Not entered

I like for you to be still and
quiet, silent as midmorning,
because then I can break
the laws of heaven and earth
when I reach across the table
and touch you, after all,
you're not really there anymore.
All those numbers and letters
that mean fingers of space are
blown into the air when my
skin brushes yours. I am
whirling through Saturday
oh, I love you. I cannot
even blink without seeing your
smile in the glint of a waterglass
Even if I were at Mass I would
hear your voice; even if I were
six feet underground and breathing
my own breath, its you I'm
trying to reach, Don't leave
me for a moment, don't
leave me for a day. Its
just so hard to think
you're living without me.
A thousand miles or a
thousand microns, its
still too far away. Stay
where I can see you, Lover-
stay where we are one.
