fate is but an open wound which i cleanse with death. i die today for my only moon and breathe my last of breath. with my only love dead i am dead as i live, as Death is my only mate. and so to my love, my life i do give; for her death by another's hate. with these last words, i hasten to die, to be by my Lady fair and in Death's short life we will meet in the sky, and in the heavens, at Her side, i'll take there.
Reason for writing:
I wrote this particular piece as part of a study project on Shakespeare my Freshman year in high school. I originally wrote it in a style akin to that of the playwrite. As to what inspired me to submit it here, I happened to catch a short interview featuring a very young Leonardo DiCapprio, and as I rembered, he recently starred in a brilliant remake of Romeo and Juliet... it just made sense. You see, this poem is ROMEO'S suicide note. I was fourteen when I first wrote this poem, the same age as the star-crossed lovers of whom I wrote.
