Who is that girl I see in the mirror? looking back through a reflection that's unclear? A beautiful one with so much to see because she's not always beautiful to me. I believe she's honest as well as kind, the most respectful and loving person you'll ever find. She would give her hand to a stranger on the street, always thinking of others even those she has yet to meet. But does that girl realize all that she holds? Does she know exactly what herself unfolds? I can see who she was yesterday, and who she has become today, yet she looks at me hoping to be me someday. Who is that girl I see in the mirror? so sure of herself but overcome with fear? A bright young girl with a life to be lived and a future with so much love to give. I believe she's got it all, the looks, the brains, and unseen potential. She has come a long way from the past to a person she once only looked up at. Why is it hard for her to see the truth? Can't she understand we are one, not two? I can look deep in her eyes, and I can see that what there lies is the person I've searched for to be inside. Who is that girl I see in the mirror? looking back through a reflection that's unclear? A beautiful one I wish were me because she's everything I've wanted to be. I believe she knows her way to places she wants to reach, and holds close to her all that will bring her peace. She seems to be searching everywhere but here, looking at all the faces except the one that's near. When will she find what's been hidden in front of her? How will she know there is no other? I can look at that girl in the mirror and often what I really see I'm not quite sure, but one day I will be her when it's me that I discover. Copyright January 8, 1999 by Bobbie J. Brown
Reason for writing:
This poem is about me (and others). So many people are always looking towards others with admiration. They think of them as someone better, someone to look up to. Wishing they were beautiful like her, or smart like her -- the other person is always better. Maybe if we take a look deep enough we will find that the person we want to be is really ourselves.Birth sign: Scorpio
