brightness glowing above sleeping waters the waking sea beckons me at dawn as the gray night-sand begins to sparkle with familiar golden sequins in the new, yellow light the world denies the coming morn— hiding from the sun that steals away pleasant dreams like the rest of the world i desire with likewise desperation to abide in the safe-hold of unconsciousness and remain in the sanctuary of a love real only as dreams i endeavor to hide from discovery and from light i cannot endure the breaking of day or the breaking of hearts your familiar voice calls to me from the horizon you’re such a sweetheart. (a cliché phrase to most, but a colossal compliment in my eyes) as the cool sea-breeze blows a kiss brushing across my forehead catching the same hairs that caught your eyeglasses when you kissed me goodnight you thanked me for believing in you— for loving you leaving the abyss in my heart still unfilled as if thank you is an appropriate response to I Love You the customary you’re welcome fell from my mouth a subconscious response yet a conscious effort to avoid conflict sparking a raging fire violently waking me from my idealized state startled by the mighty orange sun finally peeking above the edge of the world i look to the roaring waves seemingly running from the harsh light and toward my feet imploring me to save them from the sun that pulls them out to deeper waters disappearing beneath their brothers tumbling over i’m sorry, i tell them, i fear the light like you do. i turn and journey back up the sparkling beach into your arms and fall asleep
Reason for writing:
This poem actually came about during a period in my life when I was involved in a very unsatisfying relationship. I decided to submit this poem because I think it speaks to many people who have been in the same situation as I was, and perhaps it might shed some light on the reality of a relationship that needs to come to an end. Also, I would like very much to hear what others think of my work, and I figured this was a good poem to start with.Birth sign: Not entered
