Reason for writing:
This poem represents a breakthrough for me once I realized just how alienated African Americans are in this society. Although written eighteen years ago, there is still the pervasive feeling among many of us in America, that we don't belong here- that we are not wanted no matter what we accomplish or what historical pains we put behind us. It is a sad commentary on race relations yesterday and today. The long arm of history and its madness, has not yet loosened its grip.Birth sign: Aquarius
