Papers
by Richard Maxfield
2-25-99

Today I handed her the papers she wanted so bad
Why should it make her happy and me so sad
She said to death do us part
She shot an arrow that struck in my heart
My marriage is over in a flash
Was there not enough love or not enough cash
I loved her forever like no one could
Why didn’t she love me the way that she should
I gave her my all and then some more
What more pain does life have in store
Twenty plus years I gave of my life
Now I find myself with out a wife
The love I gave had no return
All the respect I thought I did earn
My marriage is over in a flash
Was there not enough love or not enough cash
