Masks

by Gary J. Lesser (Leo) - Not entered

Under a mask of smooth polish
We all hide a broken self
Betrayals and failures leave freightened children
In the shells of adults.

You didn't come home last night.
I laid in bed alone, waiting.
Listening to the tick-rest, tick-rest of the clock on my nightstand.
Birth sign: Not entered
