TO MY SON

To my Son
by Richard Maxfield
3-25-99

From the first time I held you in my arms
I knew to you I would not let no harm
your bright eyes and tinny hand
I knew some day you would be a man
I kissed your face and wiped your drool
I was there for the first day of school
I watched you learn and grow
My love for you I tried to show
I saw you swing your first at bat
a wonderful Sun, That is where it is at
I saw you run and play
each went faster day by day
sometimes I had to be stern
for the tuff lesons of life you would learn
with strong hand and tender heart
I did my best to do my part
to pick you when you fall
to make you feel big when you were small
To make you in to the best man
no other better through out the land
you came creeping home with a bent car
I was so happy you were okay by far
The day you walked across the stage
my emotions set free from their cage
at the church you took her hand
I knew she got the best man
when your first child was born
all my memories came back, my sole was torn
You grew in to more of a man than I could have hoped
I tried to give you all for life to cope
very soon you will take your family and move far away
you will be on my mind and in my prays every day
you can pick me out in a crowd
a man with chest stuck out one so proud
where ever go or what you do you are never alone
for your heart is my home

I love you
DAD

Reason for writing:

My Son is in the USAF and goes over seas 5 days. He will be put into harms way so we have our freedom. Next time you you use one of your freedoms think of my SON RYAN. A loving DAD
