For a Moment

by Peg - Not entered

Most days it’s easy not to think of what we had, of what we lost.
But still once in a while, I realize the cost
The price we paid, by giving up too fast
Keeps my heart going back to the past.

Sometimes a dream will slowly drift by,
A flash of your eyes will light up the sky,
A pat on the back can make my heart race,
But just once in a while I dream of your face.

Most days are fine, with laughter and joy,
My eye can be caught by a not-so-young boy,
I don’t wallow in sadness, tears, or doubt,
But once in a while’s what I’m talking about.

If I still carry a spark of desire for you,
It’s not enough to make me untrue,
To myself or my family, it’s not worth the pain
And it’s just for a moment, like a gentle spring rain.

But this moment, I’m dreaming of what could have been.
And wandering what would have changed and when.
Would we still be at home in our private nest?
Or alone when together like all of the rest?

Just for a moment, I wish we had tried.
Just for a moment, I’m aching inside.
Just for a moment, I’ll shed a tear
Then I’ll carry on without you, never fear.

Reason for writing:

    just being silly
