Elysian Dreams

by Robert Mc - Aries

Within the fatal mist faces beckon me
Calling me back to memory's forsaken sea
Centuries of sorrow whisper ancient fears
Oceans of blood and rivers of tears
The cries of the dying join the screams of the dead
For Time is where their life was bled
I see ghostly eyes in blues and greens
In ethereal woe they lament lost dreams
Caught in the fever of an endless trance
They re-enact the cruel play of destiny’s dance
In haunted voices they chant melancholy songs
Of slaughtered pride and infinite wrongs
Loss of love of joy of life
Slain by fatal bloody knife
Here are the broken and the lost
The forgotten heroes of a glorious past
Lovers with eyes that made angels blush
Burning with the heart’s ardent rush
Where are the songs that gave breath to the air
The lingering delight of beauty’s stare
Where are the feet that could outpace destiny
Captured by the mist in the chains of mortality
And I hear the eternal outrage of the stars
I rage with the might of Venus and Mars
Once more I look into fate's scornful eyes
They are the victims of his deadly disguise
For here within the storm of this fight
I have remembered the horror, the eternal night
With all the long dead souls I see
That kindle the fire of my dreams
In courage or fear shall we not soar
For what are we, if not the scions of war
Into that undying storm we fly
Though heaven and hell our souls tie
Beyond this deadly mist that leads
On to our dreaming Elysian Fields
