The Drive
by Richard Maxfield
5-2-99

As a cop sets beside the road with his radar
waiting on a speeding car
when much to his surprise
a car going 22 before his eyes
he thinks to himself this is a danger
I have to stop them or I am not a ranger
With lights on he pulls them over
they were 5 women that were older
the four not driving was all pale
to the driver the cop starts to tell
how driving so slow was not good
the driver said I’m doing 22 as I should
22 lady is the number of the road
55 is the speed and that is the code
she said thank you for pointing this out
I will drive faster no doubt
before he leaves he says to the four
are yall okay I have seen this look before
the lady driving said they will be fine
we just came off high way 99
