I knew an elderly lady who lived all by herself A woman rich in spirit and not much wealth She had seen a lot in her life of eighty eight years She shared a lot of smiles and shed too many tears She cared for her husband, until he was gone Buried three of her sons, yet still carried on A woman rich is strength beyond your dreams She would always smile at me, or so it seemed She would sit on the front porch as I worked in her yard Resting from her pain in life, at times it seemed so hard She looked forward to spring and the flowers by the porch But this spring the Lord came and extinguished the torch The chair is now empty as it rocks in the breeze Now resting at peace and her soul is at ease Her pain is now over and she has left us behind I knew an elderly lady, that was one of a kind SLM Copyright 1999
