Heart Of Darkness Trumpets, the choir, Of fire, sweet misery, Oh, let it sing, Isle of fire, swirling rivers envelope, Crisp and cool, Exhausted trials languished, Of an angel, black, Darkness, no light, Eyes afire with lust, Hateful, spawn of envy, Of a silence, a greater song before time, Youth and death, no recognition, hearts bare, Was a spirit, immersed in solitude, Black brow, covered in shadow, Walked with sin, upon plains of fire, of ice, Chasing angels with bane of light, None greater could contend, Black bellied serpents sung four to one, Dancing scale upon scale, Buried in ash, adoring mystery, All halls of heaven, shuttered, A presence, born of fire, bade admittance, Those ivory walls echoed, fire may not breathe That which is the light, be gone. And as serpents go, the shadow slithered away, Withdrawing all mystery, save the stain of misery, Lo, the serpents sing four to none, Sweet misery, Oh, let it sing. by chris cox ©1998
