A single rose-petal falls,
swirling in the breeze;
then gently goes to ground,
right on a small damp spot.
Absorbing the dew,
which represents my tears.
Two Spirits watch, entwined;
and the medicine-man chants:
Self-knowledge was the key
Self-understanding was the desire
Self-discipline was the way
Self-realization was the goal
This wisdom of the Seneca Indians,
shows the way and purpose of life:
to develop and share,
one's talents and oneself,
with joy, with abandon,
with passion, with the world.
Reason for writing:
I got my feet wet this morning, having a cigarette barefoot in the garden just after dawn. I was admiring the flowers, some of which are just starting to bloom.
