Broken dreams

by kim - Not entered

Nervous and shaking,
A young girl
Rises slowly from
the ground upon which
she was thrown.
With rumpled clothes
and messy hair,
she smoothes her skirt
very carefully.
as the tears flow
down her face,
the feelings of worthlessness
return.
they pull her down
in all of her brokenness,
and drive her to weep silently,
alone.
he had said that
he loved her
more than life -
and that he wanted
to be with her
and no one else.
as she walks away,
she still believes
his empty promises and
his fallen future for them.
as she is questioned,
she defends him -
it wasn't his fault.
he loves me,
she told her mother.
it was just a big mistake,
she cried as she fell into
the chair,
worn through from
hours of crying.
everyine told her
to run from his embrace;
he wasn't treating her right.
her sightless vision of him
destined her to fear
and unneccesary pain.
lying on the ground,
her body broken,
her heart torn,
and alone,
she weeps.

Reason for writing:

i think that so many girls in relationships today allow their boyfriend to take advantage of them and don't truly realize that they have a say in what is done to them. this is talking about a rape that a girl, though obviously hurt, will not call as such since she is blinded by her love for her boyfriend.
