To the Children

by Christie Virgo - Not entered

Welcome children, ideas so new,
welcome to our barren land.
Don't follow the footprints left for you,
imprint your own into the sand.
Don't ever let your smile fade,
go through life without holding fear.
Don't ever let your dreams give way,
like the others who were once here.
The land you walk in lies full of dreams,
most broken before coming true.
The grass is never green it seems,
and the skies are seldom blue.
But don't let that stand in your way,
find hope in being here.
for all will brighten up one day,
and a flower will grow from your tear.
Hold on to all you've ever thought,
Know who you want to become.
Then never listen to what your taught,
and one day you'll have won.
Be prepared for all that awaits you,
and never let yourself cry.
Then work to make your dreams come true,
until the day you die.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem to tell everyone:
Live your life the way you want it and don't let people tell you
where your going. Never live hesitantly because of a fear of
the past because it's gone and over. I wasted a lot of my life
living in regret and fear that I would relive all the struggles I've
already been through. Now I live with the thought- what doesn't
kill you, only makes you stronger.
