Mother Mother, You are my mentor, my guiding light From the day I was born, You tried to protect me from harm, from myself, Like a lioness protecting her cubs, You protected all of us, But one of the cubs ran away, You tried to teach me right from wrong, How to be a good man, I used to watch you paint, create a masterpiece, And I would watch a smile appear on your face, As you sit back and look at it, Mother do you remember that roof, I used to climb as a boy, I liked that roof, I felt safe, Safe from all, I was unreachable, untouchable, Far from all pain, I used to watch the stars lying on that roof, I smoked my first cigarette, watching the birds fly, I used to wish I was a bird and fly away, And you would watch me from the ground, Your face full of fear, that I would slip and fall, Begging me to come down, Mother, You don’t know, I fell many times in my life, But I always got back on my feet, You didn’t know what it felt to be on that roof, You could never climb, It still brings a smile to my lips, When I remember how once I climbed that roof, I refused to come down because you scolded me, You wanted me to be successful, Rich, educated master of the world, But it was not fair mother, that you wanted me to be all that, When you didn’t any of for yourself, You could have had it all, But you didn’t… After all these years, I am scared to see you again, Because you will see through my smile, You will see the pain, When I call you, you always ask me, “How are you?” and I always say “great, couldn’t be better” But I think you knew always, What was on my mind, You showed me how to be strong, face life’s challenges, Be a good man, and appreciate God’s gifts, Not to be greedy, Mother, I looked down from a window, Much higher than that little roof, But I didn’t feel the same, I didn’t feel safe, If I come back home again mother, I will climb that roof once more, And I will see your face below once again, Full of fear that I would slip and fall, Remember to look at my face mother, Remember to see if I am smiling, Because if I am, then I have found what I am looking for, And I am never coming down……Birth sign: Not entered
