His translucent blue eyes gazed upwards towards the heavens While mine stared at the sodden trail on which we stood He knew why we had come here - I could see it in his eyes The past weeks' events played out like a storybook which had reached it's climax I took his hand, his rough palm strengthening my gentle touch As we started to walk down the trail on which we had come so far We stopped beneath two willow trees gently swaying to and fro Grown together as one, branches twisted in disfiguring images, much like we had I looked into his eyes, overcast with a shadow of reality And as I leaned my head against him, I could hear his heavy heart echoing in a hollow cavity I closed my tear-stained eyes, I felt a sob choke in my throat And all I could manage to whisper him was "I'm sorry." As I found the courage to speak, I explained how we were like the willows Grown up side by side, finally formed into a single being Beautiful separate, but as they grew, becoming entangled and unseparable And that I wanted to pull out before our branches entrapped us unhappily forever He glanced upwards at the overcast sky, afraid to look me in the eyes As he inhaled, I could hear his trembling breath choking him I went to him and embraced him one last time And as I held him, he did something that I never expected: He cried
Reason for writing:
I wrote this poem about two people who truly love each other, but have issues that prevent them from being happy - and the strength it takes for them to realize that.Birth sign: Not entered
