I'd Forgotten

by Kathy McKnight - Gemini

I'd forgotten how you loved me, how you told me, how you
              hugged me,
I'd forgotten how a mother's kisses feel.
I'd forgotten how when I told you I would leave you cried
and said "My girl is gonna spread her wings
              and fly."
I'd forgotten how you told me to write every single day,
I'd forgotten how you'd hoped that home was where I'd stay,
I'd forgotten that, until my girl went away.

Reason for writing:

It was the end of the summer when I wrote this, so a lot of
my family and friends where either going off to college or
having a sibling leave. I just wrote it as if it were me
giving up my daughter to an out-of-state college.
