Apart from You

by Natalie J. Case - Virgo

apart from you
though not entirely alone
I drift across the day

proper etiquette demands
composure and self-will
exist within this frame

beneath the facade
of platitudes and gestures
I wilt within my soul

apart from you
I am able and strong
yet somehow not the same

in your presence
my soul has wings
my heart a friend

apart from you
I fade and shadow
an image of myself

waiting softly
to be with you
where I am whole

Reason for writing:

A friend who is separated temporarily from her husband due to job demands inspired this piece...
