I can walk; to the end of the earth if I choose I could even run if I wanted I can see; all of God's beautiful creatures And if I reach out, I could also touch them I can talk; until I'm winded and out of breath I could tell you stories for hours I can hear; the sound of your voice Children playing, birds chirping, the sweet melody of a musical note I can breathe; without any pain what-so-ever I could fill my lungs with air on my own I can smell; cookies baking, rain as it's falling Fresh cut grass and flowers that bloom in the spring I can sleep; in a warm, comforatable bed with blankets and fluffy pillows In the summer, I can make it cool I have a roof; and it covers my head It protects me from inclement weather and other forces of nature I can eat; I have food, I have water Pots and pans, a stove and a grocery store at the corner I have a job; that brings me a regular check So I may buy things that I need and/or want I have family and friends; who are always available Even in the grimmest of situations There's much more to life than you and me and so many people who will never experience the simple pleasures that we take for granted. You can have all of the material possesions in the world, but where does that leave you? You can have everything, and nothing at all. With that said, why can't we take the time to think of someone else? Someone other than ourselves? Can we learn to be unselfish? copyright July 13, 1999
