Note to Self

by Mui Tran - Taurus

Birth, like the roaring of thunder, comes crashing in. You
are an entity on your own. Life is a scary and everchanging
thing. Hold fast the things you love. Don't be afraid to
let go of old comforts. Go in search of strange and foreign
adventures. Every new beginning is the end of something
old. Something old, perhaps nostalgia itself is the
inspiration that ignites a living flame in the dying wind.
Time stops for no one. So don't you stop for anyone.
Honour will be your only salvation and self-doubt your only
downfall. Character is not only defined by what you do, but
also by what is in your heart. Who are you really fooling?
I am the vulture that feeds on your sickness. You are
everything I am, but I still hate you. Understanding is a
word most overused and least understood. I don't understand
anything.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem as kind of a wake-up call to remind myself
of the priorities in life.
