For a Couple of Beers

by Victorine - Gemini

Momma said that if I reached really far,
I could reach my way up to the stars.

I took this bit of advice to my soul,
nothing could stop me from reaching my goal.

So I paid attention in school, studied all all day,
wanted to get into every college in the U.S.A.

And one day the letters came,
Harvard, Yale, and Notre Dame.

Can't believe I gave up all those years,
for just a couple of beers.

The school year came to a glorious end,
I got a call from my best friend.

Now that your life has begun,
you ought to go and have some fun.

So we got real rowdy, liked it a lot,
we were smooth and never got caught.

I had a beer and then wanted more,
had another, then three, even four.

We headed home late that night,
had to admit I was feeling all right.

But there was no way any of us could know,
until our car slid off the road.

There went all my dreams,
with our deadly screams.

Can't believe I blew all those years,
for just a couple of beers.

Now I'm sitting on a cloud waiting for my wings,
looking back at all the things.

Why did I have to die,
Yale and Harvard goodbye.

If I would of used the knowledge in my head,
maybe we wouldn't all be dead.

All those years of studying hard,
just to loose it at the bar.

Wasted all those years,
for just a couple of beers.
