The Path

by Star Keeper - Taurus

Just down the dirt road
Beyond the regal tree
A bright light shines
As if it's beckoning me
I know this light will bring an end
To the pain I've held so long
But once again I turn my head
And take the path that's wrong
I've taken this path many times
I'm used to it's wretched smell
The only reason I chose it again
Is because I know it so well
Loved ones try to steer me
To go the other way
But as if it's automatic
This is where I stay
Maybe one day I'll have the strength
To answer the beckoning light
But now I continue on my path
Putting up my fight

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem after a conversation I had with a good friend. He was telling me that I was throwing my life away with drugs and blowing off school. It took a lot of bad choices and painful loses before I finally straighted up and got on the right path.
