As I found my dog in the garbage, I was enraged at his insolence ! Sure, I would punish him ! Until I looked upon his penitence. His eyes were filled with fear, He cowered, Knowing he did wrong, He knew my wrath was ever so near, From litter strewn along, But as I looked into his eyes, I knew what he had sought, To fetch and eat the taboo prize, With no aim of getting caught ! My love by then had replaced my wrath, I cleaned up all the mess, And gently gave my dog a bath, Filled with tenderness, I then began to dry him, With a towel held in love, Softing singing that great old hymn, Of Amazing Grace above.
