"A Horse Named Dan"

by Shane D. Moore - Sagittarius

Barbed wire fences contain the plain,
Of dry and barren land,
In the distance you see the two,
Tommy and his horse “Dan”,
Dan is very old I’m told,
Tommy loves him dearly,
To see the two in front of you,
Is to see the West so clearly.
One day it came an awlful time,
Dan had not a place to stay,
Tommy had no choice at all,
But to sell poor Dan away.
On that day Dan did cry,
Tommy’s heart was broken,
He said inside the word “goodbye’,
The thought could not be spoken.
Dan did go from coast to coast,
He traveled nation wide,
But through those years, amid the tears,
He still missed Tommy inside.
Then one day the sun did shine,
God had planned it that way,
Tommy was there at just the right time,
And saw Dan !, to his dismay,
He called to Dan and Dan did run,
To reunite with his loving master,
A man of God, a cowboy too !,
The local area pastor.
The reunion was a great one,
As far as reunions go,
Dan and Tommy were separated,
But only God did know,
That when it seemed to be the end,
His Amazing Grace would show,
That Tommy and dan would meet again,
And Dan would finally go home...

Reason for writing:

I have a friend who had a horse and had to move into the
city. He was then forced to sell his horse "Dan", when Dan
was 5 yrs. old. Years later my friend happened to be in a
small town in Texas, and saw a horse that looked like Dan.
He called to Dan and he ran to my friend. My friend bought
Dan back and took him home, where he is today. By the way,
"Dan" is now 21 yrs. old! What are the chances? Only God
can tell...
