Coffee with God

by Richard Willems - Aquarius

Maybe, sometime in the future,
I'd like to go for coffee with God;
that is if he can spare the time.
It would be my treat,
but I would let him pick the coffee shop-
he knows where the best ones are.
I can just see it, me with cream and sugar,
God drinking his black.
I would lean back and light up a cigarette,
then feel embarrassed and ask if it was okay.
He would smile and say it was alright,
then wink and say I was dying anyway.
That God has a weird sense of humour.
Now, some people would want to ask him why
he feels the need to kill little kids
and puppies,
and let grandmas die in supermarkets,
or even if cows go to heaven,
but not me, no way.
I would look him full in his golden face,
stir my coffee, and ask him
how come he never asked me first
to go for coffee.

Reason for writing:

It was the feeling of the time.
