You and I waited at the Subway On a small wooden bench You were sitting unusually close to me Our hips and shoulders touched There was no one else on the bench I wondered why you sat so close We laughed and talked about the day gone by When the train arrived Through a scramble of people I ventured to the doors Smiling, because your strong hand Had not lost contact with my back Since I stood up You gently guided me inside To a swarm of people everywhere Together in the middle we stood Face to face...very close Your chest touching mine My nose at the level of your neck Your chin brushing against my forehead Your hands held the bars overhead To steady yourself I glanced up to your face You were smiling at me still The train jerked into motion You pulled yourself closer to me As if to keep me steady You smelled so good Your body against mine felt so right I glance up at your eyes To see them lit up with laughter I wonder what you see And you notice my look of question You slowly lower my face to tell me Your nose tickles my ear Quietly you whisper "You should get a hat like that" I look behind me at an older woman Wearing the most awful hat I'd ever seen Laughter overtook my senses And the train slowed to a stop His hands positioned themselves Around my waist As he guided me off the train Leaving the Subway He put his arm around my shoulders It was that moment when I realized That I fell in love on the Subway
