Songs To A Manchild

by Lauretta Ali - Sagittarius

That man has gone
So has the sadness
The rain come often now, blotting out the pain
I am left alone to make what I can of it
Alone
Except for this child
who has settled himself in my heart & my mind
I tried to figure out why the rain was gone
Why the emptiness had left my body
My man done gone and left me alone
Perhaps the fool thought I'd have nothing left
Well I had & have my life and this child
So it was he, of course, who lost the contest

Reason for writing:

The Self Published Book SONGS TO A MANCHILD is based on my life as a child having & raising a child (15 yr old single parent) in the 60's.

I was a foster child of the 50's at a time when physical & sexual child abuse was ignored & a major secret. I am a survivor, an African American, a woman, a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a grand-ma & weathering the storm!!
