You touch my cheek; our lips nearly collide You charm me with your words and subtle grace-- And I am forced so foolishly to hide The tears that well upon your short embrace. For I have learned too recently your kiss Was not provoked by feelings I had planned. Were I to leave, my touch would not be missed; And still, my heart obeys your lips' command. But heed my words, that pity should not be The driving force behind your tender tongue-- For kindness just prolongs this misery; Each passing breath a beating on each lung. Each hour I learn: without you, I am free but should you wish to seek, then here I'll be.
