The Toad

by Hiro Protagonist - Leo

Mourning on the horizon.
A moon's breath screams, "Why me?"
I am the egg on the sidewalk
its earthy shadow broken and loud.
At dawn, midnight falls.
The clock hands tattoo a dance deep
like a dream.
I quench a breath and pause. In. Out. In. Out.
A soft scream, loud like a silver whisper
caresses me asleep.
Dwelling in the darkness, salty and fresh,
a toad sings alone.
