A beautiful but humid day in the spring of ninety-nine as usual the day was normal and everything was fine It wasn't long past noon when a storm began to brew all the perfect ingredients for what spawned from this monstrous stew It descended from heaven devouring worse than any before it would eat and eat gorging itself, our city was no more We had been directly in its path on the road that it had followed leveled half our city in the path that it had hollowed Everyone took shelter some we lost for good it ravaged us, destroyed almost everything But when it was all over, we still stood Yes, we still stood Even after all that went wrong we were down but not out together we were strong We helped each other out offering a helping hand clearing away debris to start over on our land Now five months later we're still cleaning up this mess we've found all our dead And laid them all to rest Now stronger than ever our unity will see us through in the aftermath of a tornado we stood strong and still do
Reason for writing:
On May 3rd of 1999 an F5 tornado touched down near Chickasa,Oklahoma and stayed on the ground through major metropolitan areas in 4 counties. The tornado was nearly half a mile wide with wind speeds topping out at 318mph, the fastest on earth. It leveled nearly complete neighborhoods and took out several buisness blocks, churches, and apartments. We had over a billion dollars in damage and even after 5 months we are still rebuilding. I live half a block from ground zero where the twister was on the ground and I find myself lucky to have my life and my house still standing.
