To a Friend

by Steve - Leo

A winding path has crossd your view
You laughed and walked away,
A one-track mind that shone so long
But fun led to dismay.

A crooked road now fills your eyes
So blindly now you stride,
Unsure of what the dust unfolds
You struggle for your pride.

So while the pitchfork spikes your hay
And no grass flaunts its green,
The lake's been drained, the fish do sigh
One breath before serene.

But as you watch, to find yourself
Your lot in turbid land,
The laughter halts, a smile frowns
One you used to withstand.

I watch afar - you curse and flail
You pounce around denial,
You cry still tears, unearthing soul
To search for what's worthwhile.

Dig deep, my friend, search far and wide
If that's what you feel best,
But roam about this Earth enough
It's circle will attest.

To tread full length to find the truth
For where it's always lied
Is proudly poised, showing the world
The laughter you provide.

So by the road, confused you stand
Existence feels betrayed,
With safeguard torn, no shelter sought
No mental debts repaid.

While you travel on this path
In you we all shall miss,
But you'll emerge the mind's cocoon
In metamorphosis.

But if you change, and find your light
To bring wrought mind to peace,
The crazy kid I know and love's
A hard thing to release.

I comfort in your loyalty
The pedastle you hold,
But cursed strike upon myself
If I could not be bold.

For far from Satan's icy grip
Tense scene can lose some breath,
But nothing's more important now -
I back your sorrowed trek.

So grasp the road, to where it takes
Stand tall to face the rage,
Tread strong to destination yours
The world's now but your stage...
