The day a mother cried

by Danielle Mc Henry - Aquarius

The Day a mother cried…

Who would have thought….
A child she loves, a baby she sought…
Who would have known…
A life full of promise all but thrown…

She was sure with all her might she prayed…
A good life, a happy one, for this baby she craved…
She was to be her child’s protector and guide…
Watch every step taken, every turn made by her side…

She adores this child, she felt joy when she bore…
She watched it grow, she knows its very core…
Held it close to her during the cold…
Hoped it listened to all the lessons she had told…

How? Where? When? She wonders what went wrong…
What did she fail to say, forget to point out, was she gone long…
Was it her doing?. Was it her fault? Did she miss the clues…
What did she not do, not show, was she paying her dues…

So how is it then her child had evolved to this stranger…
A young adult, so bitter and full of anger…
Running recklessly past youth past innocence into the breast of malcontent…
Alas, her child’s life in ruins, she wonders to what extent…

She looks on with sadness and grief…
The past and future flashed before her eyes in brief…
Held her child’s eyes for a moment…
Feeling the fear, knowing the anger and torment…

As her child was led away in cuffs and cloud of shame…
Her shoulders hunched and head bowed in self blame…
Tears came rolling down her cheeks soaking her weeping heart…
No respite as they came in waves as child and mother moved apart…

Far from her life, far from her sight….
The child no longer in the mother’s arms so tight…
T’was this day, a mother ‘s hope died…
T’was this day, a mother cried…
