Song for Society (sounds cliche to me)

by Hiro Protagonist - Leo

it might just be me
standing in concrete pastures strung far-flung and open
reaching farther than the eyes can see
startlingly straight spires shooting up from the ground
surrounded by decrepitly boxy components
raised golden arches
and the occasional vomiting smoke stack

cows
nervous and wired
rushing to their undesirable destinations
in an endless cycle of rage
and coffee
subconsciously making passionate
and sometimes erotic love to themselves
over and over again in their heads

no stranger

i'm just another
mass-produced product of Society Incorporated
another example of all that is morally right
and rightfully true
i was born from the womb of society to heed her call
but instead of falling head over heels

instead of streetcars filled with
fat men reeking of stale beer and body odor

instead of having conversations with myself
over the final game of the World Series that I didn't
and didn't care to see

i plan on doing something about it

it might just be me
lying weathered on that park bench
thin tattered scarf around my neck
huddled together
like a turtle in its shell
brown paper bagged bottle
clenched in hand

it might just be me
lying in the gutter
on third avenue
an autumn leaf caught in my hair
rustling in the wind from cars that pass by
and my eyes wide open
staring at nothingness
at everything there is to see
