A child cries out, And a mother is near, Doing her best To ease the pain Or remove the fears. Another child falls, Only to be caught in the hands Of his loving father. Yet there are times, When it is the mother’s turn, So her tears fall freely No matter how hard she fights them away. There are days, When the father is overcome with sadness For what he cannot control, And his tears also flow. A teacher has called, There is trouble at school, Again, And the tears come. Or the phone rings, It is the doctor, More bad news, More trying times, More tears. Yet no one can see them, Nor understand. We hide them from our children, And from each other, While all the time wishing For someone to know The pain and hurt we feel. Yet we must learn, As must our children, Tears are needed, For after all We are only human. By Odis E. Shultz 1999 For All Parents, EverywhereBirth sign: Cancer
