My Best Friend, Jeremy Jenkins

by Brandy Louise Barnhart (STAR) - Aries

You always had faith in me,
said I was the strongest person you knew.
You would always tease me,
say I was going to break a lot of hearts someday.
You taught me to be strong,
     never loose faith in myself.
You showed me what it's like to be happy,
     have no worries, no fears.
You gave me the world,
     said I deserved it.
And when I was blue, you made me smile,
said I was to pretty for tears.

You taught me a lot,
yet you forgot to teach me one thing.
You forgot to teach me how to day,
the hardest word in the English vocabulary.
The one word that might help me,
help me let my best friend go.
That one word that let's you know it's over,
time to move on with your life.
The life you let go of,
     when that trigger was pulled.
The life you said could only get better.

The day I lost kyou I learned that one word,
the hardest word in the English vocabulary.
The one word that would help me,
     help me let you go.
And although I can only see you in my dreams,
you will always be in my heart.
You will always be my best friend,
For now I must say goodbye,
     Goodbye to my best friend.

Reason for writing:

My best friend, Jeremy Jenkins, took his own life two and a half years ago. i still don't understand why he did it, but I do know that he was a wonderful person and deserved the best. He was an excellent leader who taught me a lot. I miss him dearly, yet it's comforting to know I can still contribute to his name and live by the wonderful things he taught me. Some things are just more important in life, like true friends!
