Long Ago

Long Ago
By RICHARD MAXFIELD
12-2-99

Long ago, in a faraway land
When man lived, by his on hand
life was simple, not such a rush
forest were thick, meadows were lush
the sky was clear, no smog to be found
rivers ran clean, no pollution to be around
clouds float, on moonless nights
shimmering stares, shine forever bright
animals stood proud, with their young at there side
a few for food, or maybe a hide
mountains stood tall, against a clear blue sky
where birds soured free, ever so high
ocean waves crashed, on sparkling shores
fish swam free, by the scores
great whales leaped, and basked all day
while dolphins chattered and played
busy bees, each flower they made
gentle breeze, under the shade
song birds sing, their song so sweet
harmony and nature, lay at our feet
now we have traffic, and rush to our job
drugs alcohol, steal and rob
smog clouds out, the sun by day
no peace, nothing more to say
