The best days of our lives

by Sonja H. van Schalm - Cancer

Can’t we see
that the world is changing
There’s no time for love
anymore
No time to care
anymore
No time
to enjoy all that nature gave us
on this world

We’re always in a hurry
rushing to work
every day
Because if we want food on the table
we need to earn our pay
We are tired
at the end of the day
Exhausted
at the end of the week

We are slowly destroying our lives
and the world we are living on
with our cars
causing pollution
with our wars
convinced that killing each other
will bring us a solution

Isn’t it sad
that we have enough time
to do what’s bad
and too little time
to do what’s good
Time is such a precious thing
of which we have so little
because we only live once

Let’s think about what’s important to us
Our friends, our family?
Let’s think about what our world really means to us
and how we want our lives to be

Time passes by so quickly
Let’s spend the time we have left
giving love to one another
and cherish everything that we have
enjoying that what’s given to us
on our world, called earth
Let’s open our eyes
to all the things
that can make these the best days of our lives.

Reason for writing:

Everyone seems to be rushing through life these days. No time for this, no time for that. In the 80's it wasn't like this, but the in the ninetees everyone seems to be busy, busy, busy. That was the reason for me to write this poem.
